About Sugar Branch
Each Sugar Branch tree is hand-picked from the nursery for optimal landscape impact, heath and vitality, uniform shape and growth habit, and disease resistance to give you the best value in your landscape. We inspect each tree for:
- Uniform and clean branching structure
- Strong and straight central leader
- Full head and symmetrical growth habit
Time is the Sugar Branch difference. It takes time to properly cultivate a truly great tree. Each Sugar Branch tree is given the time it needs to develop and caliper. Most Sugar Branch trees have spent a least 3 or 4 years being cultivated at the nursery.
Sugar Branch trees are:
- Pruned by hand twice a year to promote uniform and full head growth
- Staked to encourage straight and strong trunks
- Monitored regularly for disease and pest control
- Drip irrigated to promoted proper root development
- Started only from the highest quality root stock
- And dug only when trees are dormant
Sizing and Packaging
The nursery and landscape industry sizes trees 3 ways:
- By inch, indicating the caliper of the trunk. Example: 2-2.5"
- By height, usually for mult-stem trees, and Example: 6-7'
- By container, indicating the volume of mass within the container. Example: 7 gallon
Most large shade and ornamental trees are referenced by inch (or caliper). Multi-stem trees are referenced by height, as are some smaller ornamental varieties. Trees that are dug from the ground are wrapped in burlap and are commonly referred to as Balled and Burlaped or B&B trees. Trees that are container grown are referred to as container trees.
Sugar Branch Tree Company offers fresh dug Balled and Burlap trees in the spring and fall and both B&B and container trees in the summer.
